Truth about Fitness

You into fitness? Yeah, fitness this whole pizza into my mouth! As funny as that joke is, a lot of the views on fitness has dwindled to simple memes and catchy punchlines. Meanwhile,  looking into the severity of the situation, we have an entire country facing an epidemic of overweight and obese citizens. Which, by the way, is something we shouldn’t laugh at. When we venture outside of the United States, we can see that other countries are in vastly better physical condition than we are. Why is that? Well, for starters, the quality of food overseas is exponentially better than what we have in our country. You know why, because they have never deep fried an oreo. That and they also walk, bike, or jog to many of their destinations.

Looking into the technical definition of what fitness is, we come to see that fitness is the condition of being physically fit and healthy. I’m gonna be honest with you, being “physically fit” is nothing more than a marketing ploy in an attempt to empty your wallets to these supplement companies, and a lifetime of unused gym memberships. Now, don’t get it twisted,  there is such a thing as being overweight and obese. Personally, I would define being fit as being able to take out the trash, wash your dishes and walk to your car and still be able to sing along with Justin Bieber.

In my honest opinion its all about the right way to view fitness. Its like trying to achieve a mutual orgasm during sex. Its all in how you get started, where you are trying to go, and how you are going to pull off that seemingly impossible feat.  I know it doesn’t seem difficult on the surface but neither does getting a woman to orgasm in under an hour. Breathe, don’t panic, and let me guide you to how we are going to get there.

The Way you view fitness: 

The way you view fitness is like looking at that hot guy or girl across the room, you know want them, but how do you get them? What do I mean by this?  When you think of fitness, what comes to mind first and foremost? Do you picture someone who has a six pack or someone who can run to the store to get one in under 5 minutes? Depending on what you are envisioning when that word comes into mind, will determine how you go about becoming fit. So how do we go about achieving a realistic view on fitness? The answer is quite simple. Set a fitness goal that is realistically achievable for you.  If you want to be able to dance through 3 songs at the bar during girls night out or be able to move that refrigerator for the girl next door- that is your goal. Maintain a weight that allows you to live your life, accomplish your goals and feel good about you while doing all of that.

How to get started:

What do you want from the gym? Do you want to be sexy? Do you want to feel good? You have to be selfish, I am selfish in this aspect. I am not going to miss out on my opportunities in life for anyone. You have to work on you, what better way than physically? Your are the Leonardo of your life, take the brush, grab the paint and create yourself. We cant change the way our face is shaped or how our voice sounds, but you can change size you wear and the confidence you get from being your ideal self.

Your Goals: 

Set aside a time for you. In a day, you give time to everyone else- your boss, your employees, your family,  but not yourself. Change that shit. Its going to be arduous and brutal but be selfish. We are going to set time for you to create a cocoon of metamorphosis.  You set the time, you go to the gym, and you change what emerges in you physically, emotionally and overall.  Remember, the better you are to yourself, the better you will be to those around you.

Whatever your goals are, accomplish them! You do not stop until your requirements are met. A funny thing about goals, people will ridicule you about them. To that, I say fuck them! These are your goals. These are the things you want to accomplish. To hell with someone’s negativity towards them. My suggestion though, start off small. By starting off with a simple goal, you will quickly feel that wonderful high that comes from accomplishment. Let that become your drug of choice. Its like busting that nut and that euphoric feeling you get at the end.

Your goals should be the pathway to sculpting your perfect self. When you are setting them, keep it specific and behavior based with a specific accomplishment. We know that when we want to lose weight we focus on that number on the scale. Do the same thing with your workout goals- if today you can walk a mile in 15 minutes, then aim to do it in 14 minutes the next day. You are the person to beat, you are the epicenter in the earthquake of change, so Taylor Swift that shit and shake it up.

How to correctly use a diet:

Oh boy! Here we go. In it’s simplest form, the purpose of a diet is to establish proper eating habits. That’s it! We have been brainwashed to believe that a diet is the end all be all to losing weight. When in fact it is a small, but important component of being physically fit. To use an analogy, your body is a car, and your diet is the fuel to sustain that car. Here’s the kicker though. When you are poor, you have to put in the cheap gas. Meaning, your diet is not going to be good since you have to rely on foods that you can afford to eat. Which sadly means that you have to rely on Ramen noodle soups, Pork n’ Beans, and other ill suited food products. When you are well to do, you can use the better quality gas, such as Organic foods, fruits and vegetables. Now you may be wondering, how the hell can I get the most use of out my gas if I’m poor? Don’t worry, I got you. I’m in the same boat as you, homie, and I’ve been doing this for years. Just because you don’t have access to the good stuff, doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from the cheap stuff. So whats the trick?  You have to be careful of how much of the cheap product you consume in a day. So, let’s say someone has Ramen noodle soup, Hot dogs, and Pork n’ Beans to eat versus someone who has access to salads, greens, and fruits and vegetables. That individual who is eating Ramen noodles has to eat less often throughout the day than someone eating better quality foods. How the fuck is that fair?! Well, it isn’t. That’s the truth. But the lesser quality foods are high cholesterol (not the good kind either), sodium, and calories. So you’ll have to limit yourself to three maybe four meals a day. Whereas, those who are eating healthily can eat up to six times a day.  To surmise a long rant here, your diet is nothing more than a learning curve on how to properly eat throughout the day.  When you have access to better quality foods, you can increase your daily intake to about five to six small meals a day. So it gets a bit tough when you are poor. If you have to buy your food in a gray and white box from a store that charges a quarter for a cart, then embrace the grey a few less times a day.

Summation:

-The quality of food overseas is exponentially better than what we have in our country. You know why, because they have never deep fried an oreo.

Overall, the main idea of of fitness is to take in less calories than you expend. Set small goals and accomplish them which will lead to the perfect you. We are all in the same boat here, wether its a canoe or a luxury liner at some point we need to know we can paddle to shore if need be. Don’t be scared about your journey to fitness. As long as you have an idea of what and how you want your body to function, go ahead and do just that. Fitness, is a fun way into creating the perfect you.
